L is for ‘Light’: (Can a slim and healthy body make you more psychic?)

When Doreen Virtue told me that becoming vegan was the key to being more intuitive, more psychic and a better medium, I didn’t believe her. I couldn’t see the connection between my food choices and my ability to connect with people on a spiritual level. Recently, however, I have been studying the roles of energy, waves and vibration (the electro-magnetic spectrum) in spiritual work and I have developed a theory that working towards a slim and healthy body may make you more psychic. I do not think that it is our eating habits alone that determine how psychic we are (to improve your intuitive abilities requires love, empathy, belief, practice, meditation and study, amongst other things) but I do think that your food choices impact your ‘connectedness’ to your higher-self, to other people, and to non-corporeal beings. Sounds wacky, I know, but hear me out…

The phrase ‘love and light’ crops up in many arenas of spirituality, but what does it actually mean? The love part is pretty obvious, but ‘light’ is a word with many meanings, some of them literal and some of them figurative. We have adopted the word ‘light’ into spiritual discourse, and this adoption gives us clues that there is a relationship between the physics of light; describing something as light in terms of weight; and the idea of working with ‘the light’ in spiritual endeavours. It is this connection between meanings that my theory is based on.

In terms of physics, the definition of light is: Electromagnetic radiation that has a wavelength in the range from about 4,000 (violet) to about 7,700 (red) angstroms and may be perceived by the normal unaided human eye.

So in this literal sense, different colour lights appear so because they have different wavelengths. Like so:

wavelengths, electrmagnetic, spectrum, light, colour

In spiritual work, we often refer to angels, spirit people and other non-physical beings as ‘beings of light’ suggesting that they exist somewhere on the electromagnetic spectrum. When, in spiritual discourse, we refer to something as ‘high vibration’, we are also using an electromagnetic spectrum analogy, implying both that the thing is spiritual and good, and that it expressed as a wave. We have borrowed the word ‘vibration’ from sound- which, like light, is expressed as waves and frequencies, further down the electromagnetic spectrum, like so:

sound waves

Physical matter – which you and I are made of – can also be expressed as frequencies and vibrations. The heavier we are physically, the lower the frequency we emit. The lower the frequency we emit, the further away we move from the ‘high vibration’ and ‘beings of light’ that we communicate with, whose frequencies are much higher than ours because they are not made of physical matter.

The less you weigh, the higher your frequency. When you eat to be slim and healthy, you literally raise the frequency of your body, thereby moving your ‘vibration’ closer to the frequency of ‘beings of light’ simply because you are carrying less matter.

Fruits and vegetables, apart from containing lots of nutrients, have higher frequencies than meat because their mass is less than meat so eating fruits and vegetables helps you to sustain a ‘high vibration’. When you consume them, they don’t weigh your vibration down as much as meat, carbohydrate or dairy. Therefore:

junk food, equation, frequency

You plus junk food equals low frequency.

frequency, spirituality, food, nutrition

You plus salad equals high frequency!

Our portion sizes also have a frequency. We usually eat junk food in portion sizes that have a greater mass, and therefore, lower frequency than the portions of fruit and vegetables that we normally eat. So it makes sense that eating whatever will raise your frequency, in portion sizes that raise your vibration, will move you closer to the frequency of ‘high vibration beings’ and ‘beings of light’.

What do you think? Am I crazy mental or is there something to this? Have you noticed a correlation between weight-loss/ weight-gain, your eating habits, and your intuitive abilities?

L is for ‘Love’: (Seven effects of love that ought to come with a warning label!)

pills, red, bottle, love, passion

When you experience love, it is like taking medicine for the first time. As you adjust to the changing presence of love in your heart, you may experience some ‘side effects’- just as you feel the effects when you introduce a new substance to your body. The effects of love are manifold, and some of love’s ‘side effects’ are unexpected and may be a big change from your usual feelings. If love could be bottled – like medicine – and consumed to be experienced, then the bottle should come with these ‘warning labels’ of love’s unexpected side effects:

!WARNING!: When you truly experience love, you may feel like being alone.

When you think of love, you think of sharing love with your partner, family and friends, right? But experiencing love may have the opposite effect on you. Love might cause you to lock your door, unplug your phone, switch off the internet and be non-contactable, even by smoke-signal, if you are adjusting to loving yourself. It is hard to love yourself if you feel that you must constantly be giving yourself to others. To be alone is to look within, to be at peace, and to promote self-knowledge. To be alone is to accept your own company as good company: there is love in that acceptance.

!WARNING! Living with love may make you more aggressive.

Do you think of love as something floaty and passive and saintly? What if I told you that when you choose to experience love, you may start to give a shit about things you’ve never cared about before? When you experience love, the first thing to be cured is apathy. The second thing, is the sense that we are all separate from each other. Don’t be surprised when you welcome love into your heart, you begin to think ‘what can I do to help?’, ‘how can I change this?’, ‘how can I make a difference?’- love feeds your inner eco-warrior, your inner samaritan and your inner Robin Hood.

!WARNING! When you experience love, you may notice spontaneous physical changes in your body.

Do you love doughnuts? Do you love booze? Do you love junk food? When you ramp up the dosage of love in your life, you may not love those things so much. A weird side effect of love is that you may start loving life, your health and yourself too much to still love eating that crap. When you take a new dose of love into your heart, ‘I feel like eating a salad’ may spontaneously run through your mind…just sayin’…

!WARNING! Choosing love may cause you to quit your job.

Love, if you let it, will eventually course through every vein of your life. If you start out doing a job that is on a non-loving vibration, and you subsequently introduce a higher dose of love into your life, you may see, quite frankly, that you job is a waste of what you have to give. You may come to realize that your job does not support your wellness; you may see clearly that it doesn’t support the planet’s wellness. It may dawn on you that your work has fallen out of sync with your soul’s needs. If so, use love’s inspiration to guide you towards what to do to put it right. (This happened to me, I used to work for a credit card company).

!WARNING! Living a life of love may make you re-think your entire life.

Woah! This can be scary…when you begin to live with regular supplements of love, it may cause you to take stock of your whole life. Your life is not compartmentalized, everything has a knock-on-effect on everything else. Love causes you to treat people differently- that in itself can have a massive effect on the quality of experiences in your life. Love wants you to do things that support your wellbeing. Love encourages you towards happiness and peace. Love shoves you in the direction of joy….and the dominos continue to tumble.

!WARNING! Love will make you more self-interested.

To many, love means being selfless, but when you have love in your life, how can you be selfless? You are the facilitator of love by your thoughts, intentions, words and actions. In order to facilitate love, you need to have an understanding of love and to understand love, you need to feel loved…how can you possibly offer something that you have never felt? Not only is it perfectly acceptable for you to receive love, but it is absolutely necessary. Love has the weird side-effect of causing you to cultivate an understanding of love for others by loving yourself.

!WARNING! Love has been known to make people say sorry for their mistakes.

When you love, you don’t need to be right. When you love, you realize that there may be no such thing as ‘right’ because you become more compassionate and understanding of the coherent buoyancy of differing points of view. This may compel you to offer an apology – verbally or mentally but always sincerely – to someone, because through love, you see that contrast, contradiction and variety is fundemental to the overall progress of love. It is not about switching to another side- it is simply that there are no sides, just different expressions and various catalysts for love. Even the ‘bad’ stuff can be a catalyst for love. If you can accept that, then you’ve got the dosage just right.

These have been the seven effects of love that ought to come with a warning label. Can you think of any more?

J is for ‘Jobs’. (How to be happy at work and love your job.)

happy work job funny

Having a job that makes you happy is one of the most important aspects of leading a balanced life. I often say to my clients, ‘Do what you love or at least, love what you do,’ and that is going to be the topic of this post.

Every day of my life, I give thanks that I am able to work for myself in a career that supports my soul’s development, and that also allows me to assist other people with theirs. My journey towards self-employment as a spiritual advisor was a long but joyous one, and along the way, I worked at a variety of day-jobs to keep the bills paid and to fund my dream of working for myself. During that time, I worked as a financial advisor, customer service consultant, make-up artist and waitress, and each of these jobs taught me that my happiness at work was completely within my control, and wasn’t dependent on the job I was doing, as such. I also came to realize that, of course, it is important that there are ‘normal’ people out there who are doing spiritual work. But it may be more important that there are spiritual, positive and happy people out there doing ‘normal’ work; bringing their love, light and integrity to a variety of different jobs. It is those people, I believe, who incite positive social change and who are the spiritual foundations of our societies.

So to all of you who are teachers, carers, nurses, social workers, waiters, bar staff, customer service advisors, civil servants, chefs, cleaners, lorry drivers, politicians, soldiers, emergency service officers, security workers, taxi drivers and in any other profession that keeps our world ticking over, please know that your happiness at work is important – that you take your spirituality with you into work every day makes a significant difference to all of us. Thank you for doing what you do, and doing it with a smile on your face!

Do you have a top tip for being happy and fulfilled at work? Did you ever start a job and were pleasantly surprised by how happy it made you? Comment below and tell us how you stay happy in the workplace. Here are my top 5 tips on how to be happy at work, that I hope all of you will benefit from, whether you serve our food, patrol our streets, or operate on our brains!

Tip No. 1: If you can’t do what you love, at least love what you do.

Ok, so you didn’t manage to achieve your childhood dream of being the first astronaut to visit the Andromeda galaxy, but does that mean that you will never be happy in another career? What if I told you that your happiness at work is not to do with what job you do, but is determined by your decision, every day, to be positive and to give each task your best shot. If you make the decision to think of your job in a loving and appreciative way, your good feelings will rub off on your colleagues, making your place of work a happier place to be for everyone. You will enjoy your job more, simply when you choose to enjoy your job. Try this experiment:

Tomorrow, choose to go into work and do your absolute best, with the greatest care and effort that you can. Let me know in a comment how your day went, when you made the deliberate decision that your workplace is a happy place.

Did you notice a difference? So until NASA call to invite you to begin training for Andromeda, choose to make the best of what you have! And if something at work is really so bad that you really, really can’t be positive about it…then you need to give yourself permission to leave. Seriously, why would you choose that level of unhappiness for yourself?

Tip No. 2: Practice clear and open communication.

If you have something to say to your boss or a colleague, take the time to think it through and then just say it! Swallowing down your worries, concerns and criticisms is not healthy for you, nor is a lack of communication healthy for your workplace. Being unable or unwilling to express yourself can lead to feelings of resentment and isolation at work and that is definitely not conducive to your happiness! The fear of speaking up is often worse than the experience itself, and if you can be tactful about your communications then you will find that most bosses and colleagues are just people too and not the judgmental, angry monsters that our non-confrontational minds make them out to be. When you are afraid to communicate at work, it is really your thought about the outcome that you are afraid of. To work through this, deliberately visualize your boss or colleague responding in a loving and receptive way before you begin a communication with them- this positive expectation will open up the channels of communication between you both.

Tip No. 3: Do one thing every day that is beyond the call of duty.

It feels good to be deliberately helpful at work. If you show up to work willing to do a little extra, whether it’s helping a new-start, being flexible with shifts or meeting a tough deadline, you will give off a vibration that you are approachable, helpful and kind…those are good qualities to have. And when pay-rise or promotion time comes around, your record of work will be glowing. When you are helpful, you inspire your colleagues to follow suit. Kindness and generosity are contagious – try it and see!

Tip No. 4: Set realistic boundaries.

You may think that in order to be respected by your boss and others, you need to take on every bit of extra work that’s going. But this is not so. It is better to do 2 tasks excellently well than 5 tasks poorly. Be honest about what you can manage well and don’t be afraid to say no to extra work if it is too much: your boss and colleagues will respect your honesty and you won’t feeling like crying because of stress and pressure. This is very important in sustaining a healthy work/life balance.

Tip No. 5: Work with integrity.

Always work with integrity. If your workplace doesn’t treat you right, despite attempts to resolve issues, you should think about whether that really is the right place for you to work. Your health and happiness are more important than your job and you shouldn’t have to work someplace that doesn’t support your wellbeing. Try to avoid gossip, negativity, bullying and bitching – these also do not support your wellness at work. If your colleagues really don’t respect the workplace or each other and it’s really bringing you down, you may want to consider if that place of work is really what’s best for you. No job is worth the integrity of your soul. You may think, ‘I’d love to leave but there are no other jobs.’ And my only reply to that is ‘what you believe is what you receive’. If you affirm that there are no jobs then you make it much for difficult for the Universe to bring you meaningful work. Try, instead, to affirm what you do want:

I have a wonderful job that I am happy to get up for every day. My work pays well and supports my wellbeing.

Why shouldn’t you have this? A happy and healthy workplace is totally achievable for you, if you believe it is.

What do you do for a living? Do you think that it’s important to practice positivity and spirituality at work? Please leave me a comment- I’d love to hear all about how you make the most of your working day.

I is for ‘Information’. (Citizen Hearing on Disclosure: Compelling Evidence that Extra-Terrestrials Have Visited Earth.)

Welcome back everybody. After writing H is for ‘Humanoid’, I realise that I have only scratched the surface of the current events surrounding Ata and Sirius, so yesterday, I decided to write a ‘part two’ about the political impact of the presence of extra-terrestrial life here on Earth, with particular focus on the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure.

Citizen Hearing Disclosure UFO extra-terrestrial

I then promptly talked myself out of writing this post.

Frankly, I feared that it was too big a job. I switched off my laptop and went to a spiritual centre where I was speaking last night. Upon my arrival, I was offered a cup of tea. Imagine my surprise when my tea came in a mug emblazoned with ‘Men In Black’ and a little extra-terrestrial on the side! I actually burst out laughing. Never in my life have I seen that mug and I have visited this centre many times. ‘Alright, alright synchronicity! I’ll write the damn sequel already!’ I thought…so here it is. Just for the sake of organizing the information in my own mind, and for ease of reading for you, I have divided my thoughts into questions and answers. Speaking of questions and answers, what did you think of the CHD? Have you ever seen an extra-terrestrial craft or being? Tell me all about it in the comment box below.

So what exactly is the ‘Citizen Hearing on Disclosure’?

The Citizen Hearing on Disclosure. is a congressional-style meeting that took place from 29th April- 3rd May 2013 in the National Press Club Ballroom in Washington D.C. The hearing was attended by scientists, academics, doctors, astronauts, physicists, journalists, military personnel, personnel from congress and the general public from ten countries across the Globe. With a line up like this, you would be forgiven for thinking that a state of war had been declared: but no…this group’s reason for meeting, thankfully, is not about preparing for war. The CHD met to discuss the evidence surrounding governmental cover-ups of information confirming that extra-terrestrial beings and crafts having visited planet Earth. The CHD was particularly interested in the people’s right to know the truth; the possible reasons why governments have felt that cover-ups are necessary; and bringing discussions about extra-terrestrial beings from the fringes of society and the realms of ridicule, into mainstream political discussion. The hearing has been recorded on film to be included in a forthcoming documentary entitled: ‘Truth Embargo’.

So who was on the commitee and who gave evidence at CHD?

Many interesting individuals (some with mindblowing testimonials!) from all over the world took part in the hearing. Their statements were heard by the objective ears of a committee consisting of former congressmen and women. Congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick, Senator Mike Gravel, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, Congressman Merrill Cook, Congresswoman Darlene Hooley and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, took part, each listening and responding to eye-witness testimonies, the analysis of scientists and engineers, the thoughts from various political fronts, and bore witness to the re-telling of extra-terrestrial close encounters of kinds 1-5. The hearing featured confessions of government and military officials who had been forbidden by the chain of command from speaking about their direct and indirect experiences of extra-terrestrial beings and crafts. Many of the speakers discussed the destruction of evidence and permanent deletion of files as part of the ongoing cover-ups. Some of the most interesting speakers were:

Sergeant John Burroughs & Seargeant Jim Penniston- Both of these men were serving in the Air Force when they encountered a landed extra-terrestrial craft in Bentwater Air Base, England in 1980. There remains some evidence in support of their testimonies, including abnormally high levels of radiation where the craft landed, and plaster-cast imprints of the craft’s landing gear, but many of the Sergeants’ records have been deliberately destroyed or kept from them. They are now in the process of suing the Air Force for access to their own medical records which detail possible health conditions caused or exacerbated by the incident. Both of these seemingly honest and trustworthy men can corroborate each other’s story, so unless they are flat-out lying, it is very difficult to explain away their experience. Read their full story here.

Sirius Citizen Hearing Disclosure UFO Extra-terrestrial

Captain Robert Salas- Captain Salas was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, where ten nuclear missiles were stored and maintained. Each missile had its own primary and secondary power sources, and there was nowhere outside of the inner capsule of the base where the missiles could be controlled. Nevertheless, on March 24th 1967, Captain Salas plus several other men witnessed a red light in the sky, and they each saw what looked like an aircraft that behaved in no way they had encountered before. Within a short time, the craft had shut down and de-powered the missiles before disappearing into the sky. When the commanders approached the affected missile launch sites, they lost all radio communication with base, for reasons unknown. You can listen to Seregeant Salas’ amazing account here.

A full list of speakers, each with an amazing tesitmony, can be found here.

Why is the CHD worthwhile? What is the driving force behind it?

‘If the congress won’t do its job, the people will’ is the snappy and empowering mission statement presented by the CHD. Funded, organized, attended and promoted by the people for the people, the CHD provided speakers and witnesses of of extra-terrestrial activity with an open forum where, for whatever reason, the current American government refused to. There are two things about the CHD that I think are really amazing. First, that the subject matter – extra-terrestrial life being in contact with Earth – is oh-so interesting, and if true, is a paradigm shifting game-changer. But second, and perhaps more importantly, the model of the CHD – the method and the purpose – raises all manner of interesting questions and new perspectives. A transparent and ridicule-free discussion about extra-terrestrial life having visited Earth is wonderful to see, but aside from the topic at hand, the implementation of the model of a citizen hearing its indicative of a shift in the way that the people of the American democracy want to do business: and it is their governments obligation to take note and follow. Here are some other thoughts that came to mind as I was watching the CHD:

  • Why do we need a hearing to request disclosure, surely people have the right to know what is going on behind closed doors with the goverment that they themselves elected?
  • Why is the current American government fighting so hard to avoid disclosing the information, and why won’t they represent themselves by taking part in the proceedings?
  • Lack of transparency indicates that the government is not working for the best interests of the people that they serve. If that is indeed the case, then whose interests are they working for?
  • Is it the case that the government won’t take part in the proceedings because they think it silly (as has been the thought in the past about extra-terrestrials) or is it because they genuinely have something to hide?
  • If the people have managed to arrange and complete a high quality hearing ‘by the book’ with high calibre speakers and a global audience, does that mean that the people have taken over and are now, to some extent, acting as their own shadow government on this matter?

Oh alright, perhaps I’m getting carried away here but you get the point. The perspective of many people, myself included, is that a governmet has a responsibility to answer the questions posed to it by its people and if it’s refusing to, one has to wonder why.

What do the CHD and its participants hope to achieve?

Political transparency. Not just the truth behind the lies about extra-terrestrial life, but in the way our governments operate more generally.

What else could the structure of the CHD be used for?

The CHD model, combined with the instantaneous and widespread access to information via the internet is a powerful combination which has great potential to flush out the truth, or at the very least, allows the general population to know enough information about important discussions that they do not have the feeling that they are being left in the dark. Just a little information can prompt the questions that need to be asked, which are the first steps towards the changes that need to be made, both at the level of government, and at the level of the individual. I can think of some other areas where the CHD model would work. I’d love to see a hearing with a committee and air-tight witnesses broadcast over the internet, with the purpose of answering these clangers:

  • What is our food really made of?
  • Are we really planning our defence: or are we planning an attack?
  • Where exactly is all the money going?
  • Why are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer?
  • Exactly how harmful are the chemicals in plastics and drugs?
  • Precisely how bad is global warming?
  • Exactly what are the emigration and immigration laws and why are they different from country to country when we are all sharing the same world?

The reason that the model is so great is that it allows people with various points of view to come forward and discuss very difficult and secretive matters in an open and transparent way, thus giving the power of information back to the people.

What’s the next step? Is there a way that I can get involved?

After the success of the CHD, the committee of the CHD are now seeking support from the UN to organize a world conference with the intention of sharing information about extra-terrestrials and proposing a resolution as to how best understand and reach out to our guests from ‘out there’. Want your government to take part? Email them. Write to them. Begin a petition and show that you care about this. And when you do, remember that the CHD is not just about how we plan to treat people from another world: it’s about how governments treat people who belong to this world.

H is for ‘Humanoid’. (Who is the Atacama Humanoid? His identity remains unsolved.)

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I saw something this week that I simply must share with you. In an effort to add to my ever expanding mind, I watched a documentary called Sirius. I am not usually a conspiracy theorist, and I am not easily convinced by things that are distantly removed from me via the editable media of film…but there was something about this documentary that affected me: it triggered a feeling in me that I can’t shake off.

The documentary, at its core, is about the reams and reams of evidence that suggests that extra-terrestrial life has visited our little blue planet. What is shocking is that the majority of this evidence seems to exist within the secretive grasp of governments all over the world. Sirius exposes many of the testimonials, files, witness reports and items of video and photographic evidence, in support of the visitation of extra-terrestrial life to Earth, whilst aiming for full disclosure as to the world’s real and true position on the presence of extra-terrestrial life. I am captivated by this documentary for a few reasons: First, the documentary is well-made and beautifully shot. Also, the evidence that it presents is compelling; and the witnesses are educated, decorated and sincere people from the military and beyond, but mostly I am affected because the story seems so plausible, being both patient and mindblowing. The drive behind the Sirius Documentary is that if extra-terrerstrial technology exists on this planet, then we all have a right to know about it. If there was a secret and hidden technology that could give all of us access to clean and free energy (including zero point energy) and which could initiate developments towards advanced flight and propulsion techniques, wouldn’t you want to know about it? The implementation of such technologies would undermine the need for- and therefore, value of- fossil fuels, the pursuit of which is probably the most harmful act, in myriad ways, that each and every one of us cannot help but engage with on this planet. Government confirmation of the technology left behind by extra-terrestrial visitors to this planet would shortly render fossil fuels unnecessary, therefore decreasing their value: and we all know what that means, right? No more fiscal value in oil…no more fighting over oil…no more oil = power…and no more reality built on a foundation of oil and other fossil fuels. The impact of this paradigm shift would be far reaching, and Sirius explores the reasons why some may not be ready for the shift, and what they are doing to prevent it from occuring. Clean and free energy would be received in a positive way for the majority of us…and in a negative way for the few who dictate the value of money and who are calling all the shots. The Sirius Documentary discusses the socio-economical, global, personal, defence, health and fiscal impact of the invention of free energy and the implications of exploring new methods of propulsion, flight and anti-gravity. Although all of this is fascinating and obviously very important, there was one specific element of the documentary that really blew my mind…

In 2003, a tiny humanoid body was found, extremely dessicated and almost mummified, in the Atacama Desert region of Chile.

Atacama Humanoid

The Sirius documentary follows the investigation into the identity of the tiny Atacama Humanoid (nicknamed Ata) as scientists, UFOlogists and sceptics alike wait with baited breath to discover if he is a being not of this planet. Research has been carried out, DNA has been tested, and consultants have been consulted…and yet the mystery continues. His ‘situation’ cannot be clearly identified and explained. He is a tiny six inch skeleton, whose life and death are completely new in our realm of understanding. He may just be a completely new world of knowledge, contained within six inches of life.

So here’s what we know about Ata so far:

  • Ata is definitely not a hoax. His bone structure is much too complex to be hoaxed and his DNA, which has been tested by Stanford University indicates that he is a whole being.
  • Ata is as tall as a ball-point pen.Atacama humanoid alien
  • Ata is male.
  • It appears that Ata was between 6 and 8 years old when he died. We know this by the extent to which the bones in his knees are formed.
  • Ata’s skeleton appears to be between 50-150 years old. We know this from his bones having been carbon dated.
  • Ata has 9/10 ribs, and human beings usually have 12.
  • Ata has somewhat human DNA. Some elements of Ata’s DNA do not match human DNA, as far as is known.
  • It appears, from his DNA, that Ata’s mother lived in the Atacama region of Chile.
  • Ata has been tested for all known forms of dwarfism with no indication of dwarfism in his genetic make-up.
  • Ata has been tested for all known expressions of progeria. His genome shows no sign of the disease.
  • Ata’s height, ribs, skull shape and structure, eye socket shape and structure, and organ size are very different from anything previously seen in another human being…ever.

So how do we tie all this information together? Who is the Atacama Humanoid?

Atacama Humanoid Sirius Human Chile

Is it possible that Ata came from the stars? It certainly doesn’t seem impossible. After all, didn’t all of our atoms originate somewhere other than this planet? Each and every one of us has a bit of star dust within, and each and every one of us was a twinkle in the eye of the Big Bang. Perhaps Ata may serve to prove to us, not necessarily that there is life ‘out there’ but that there really is no ‘out there’…there is no ‘them and us’. Perhaps he serves as a gentle reminder that we do not know it all just because we sort-of-think-we-know how our own planet works. Ata reminds us, whether other-planetary or human, that there is so much left to learn, and that we are not an isolated planet in the middle of nowhere, but that planet Earth is a lively cell, within an increasingly lively Universe.

What do you think? I really want to know! Conspiracy theories, scientific evidence, your experiences with Extra-terrestrial crafts or beings…the lot! If you’ve has an experience with an extra-terrestrial I want to know about it! Leave your thoughts and comments here…

Until next week: Look up at the night sky, and politely ask with the power of your thoughts, for an extra-terrestrial being to come and say hello. Evidence suggests that if they do exist, they will tend to respond to what you think, rather than what you say.

F is for ‘Forgiveness’. 5 Reasons Why Forgiveness is the Best Revenge.

5 Reasons Why Forgiveness is the Best Revenge.

Forgiveness Freedom

So, what is so great about forgiveness? Can we really forgive and forget? Have you experienced the healing power of ‘forgiving yourself’?

Someone wise once told me: ‘Unforgiveness is like punching yourself in the face and expecting someone else to feel the pain.’ That being said, why is it that we often find it so difficult to forgive the past and move on with our lives? The answer, I believe, is because we get caught up in the erroneous idea that forgiving equals excusing, condoning or giving pardon to other people’s past behaviour that has really hurt us. When we have been really hurt by someone’s actions, we become so angry, and feel so betrayed and vulnerable, that we just want revenge. Sweet and slow revenge!!

When you have been badly hurt, forgiveness is the last thing on your mind (it’s ok to admit this, you are human!) – you want the perpetrator to understand the pain that they have caused, and to suffer as you have suffered: ‘An eye for an eye…’ and all that. You are so wounded that you cannot forgive and that unforgiveness is a strong fuel that powers your desire for revenge. You feel entitled to vengeance and dishing out retribution feels to be the only salve for your inflamed sense of hurt. And yet…you do nothing. You are a good person and you do not want to go to jail so you resist the urge to batter the perpetrator’s door down with an axe! You swallow down your anger, your hurt, and your need to administer suffering as you have suffered. Over time you get sick, maybe you get angrier, maybe you can’t form meaningful and loving relationships because you cannot trust that you won’t get hurt again. The unforgiveness becomes your dark and poisonous companion who builds a re-inforced wall between you and your natural resting-state of peace.

But it’s not too late to break down that wall! What if I told you that you can achieve the revenge you seek in a way that really will make you feel better, and for which you won’t go to jail? What if I could assure you that it is forgiveness itself, that is the best revenge for past hurts?

‘But what happened to me was really bad. He treated me like garbage, I was abused, I hate this person, I really don’t think I can forgive them.’ I hear you say. If that is so, then the weapon of forgiveness will be even more powerful for you, if you learn how to use it. Get ready to take back the sense of peace that is rightfully yours! Here are some examples of situations that hurt, and 5 reasons why forgiveness is the best revenge…

1. Forgiveness is the best revenge because there is nothing more infuriating to someone who would deliberately hurt you, than you moving on with your life and being happy.

What happened? : My boyfriend of two years cheated on me. I forgave him and I thought that because I had forgiven him, I should take him back. He cheated on me again. I was devastated and hurt and broke up with him immediately. I now hate him, I hate myself fo being such an idiot, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to forgive again. Forgiveness didn’t work for me.

Take revenge! : Forgive him again. Don’t get confused and think that forgiveness means that you have to take him back- it’s not so. True forgiveness actually has nothing to do with condoning the behaviour of a cheating ex. It’s all about you. The extent to which you are willing to forgive is simply the extent to which you are willing to keep giving your cheating ex control of your suffering.

Forgiveness = Taking Control.

When you forgive, you acknowledge that you have been hurt, and you make the choice that hurt will not continue to define you in the present. Of course, you are entitled to grieve when you have been hurt; let yourself get mad, get it all out of your system, and when you’re done, visualize the offender in your mind and say. ‘I forgive you. I release you. I release myself from your control.’ (Go here for more on positive affirmations.)

2. Forgiveness is the best revenge because you’ll live a longer and healthier life.

What happened? : My mother abandoned me as a child. She left when I was 3 years old and I never saw her again. I have felt bitterness towards her all my life. I have often thought about hurting her the way she hurt me. I don’t think I could ever forgive her.

Take revenge! : For a moment, lets forget that this is about your mother. Let’s forget that forgiveness is about anyone or anything outside of yourself. I want you to think about yourself only. Forgiveness is a process that you can go through to bring peace, contentment and physical wellness to yourself. Being in a constant state of unforgiveness is really bad for your health. The emotions associated with unforgiveness cause chemical, hormonal and immune changes in your body which, over an extended period of time, can make you physically ill. Don’t let the past ruin your present and future health. Forgiveness is as much an important part of your healthcare routine as brushing your teeth and eating well! Forgiveness benefits your health in a similar manner to kindness. For an in-depth look at the science behind the health benefits of forgiveness and kindness, head over to Dr David Hamilton’s website.

3. Forgiveness is the best revenge because when you forgive, you take back your own power.

What happened? : My ex-boss was such a bully. Every day he made embarrassing remarks to me and singled me out from the rest of my colleagues when he felt like taking out his rage on someone. I put up with this for 5 years before being made to feel so miserable that I had to leave a job that I essentially loved. I’ll never forgive him for that.

Take revenge! : When you choose to forgive, this is the best kind of revenge because you re-empower yourself. This empowerment comes from recognizing that you have a choice: You can choose to continue to feel hurt, resentful and angry, or, you can choose to take responsibility for your reaction and work on being a person who forgives, even if it is difficult. Recognizing that you have a choice is truly empowering. Bullying is a terrible thing and it is understandable that you would find it difficult to forgive- but ‘finding it difficult’ to forgive is a whole lot better than having no choice at all. You can always make the choice to forgive and release all the tension and anxiety within you, that is embodied by unforgiveness. When you choose to forgive a bully, you release yourself from the feeling of victimization and you can begin to heal. What could be more empowering than that? Give yourself love and positive acknowledgement when you are able to forgive, it is a big ask.

4. Forgiveness is the best revenge because learning how to forgive protects you from Forgiveness dove monkeyfuture hurts.

What happened? : I got scammed! Someone hacked into my bank account and withdrew all my money 4 days before Christmas. I have 2 kids and if it hadn’t been for the generosity of friends and family, Christmas would have been ruined. These soulless thieves left me broke. The people who did this have never been caught and I’m having difficulty forgiving because there has been no justice.

Take revenge! : Forgiveness is the best revenge here because when you forgive, you make space in your heart for two very important questions. First, did you learn anything from this experience? Second, (and this is a hard one!) Is there anything positive that you can take from this experience? If you can forgive, you will be able to see what can be learned. Forgiving, here, has nothing to do with forgiving bad actions, you are using forgiveness for you. Can you imagine forgiving stealing to the extent that you are able to see something very precious in the experience? Visualize having a conversation with the thieves. In your mind say: ‘I forgive you. I know you act out of fear. I wish you love and I hope that you can overcome the things that make you afraid.’ If you are able to do this, you will discover within yourself, that you can protect yourself from future hurts simply by deciding to be a person who forgives. You can choose to be a person who forgives no matter what, and in doing so, you protect yourself from future hurts which are deepened and extended by unforgiveness. Practice forgiving now and you will be able to cope, forgive, and move on in future. Forgiveness can only make you stronger and less fearful when applied in this way…try it!

5. Forgiveness is the best revenge because it really is the cure for feeling sad, angry, frustrated and hurt.

What happened? : My father passed away several years ago. We weren’t on good terms because he was largely absent from our lives when my brother and I were kids. The times when he was around, he was violent and angry. He never apologized or admitted his mistakes and now that he’s gone, I still can’t forgive him. I don’t believe he was sorry and now I’ll never know.

Take revenge! : Some people who hurt you cannot apologize because they have passed away. Some people who have hurt you will not apologize for various reasons. If forgiveness was dependent on the apologies of others, human beings would have blown the world up already. Think of forgiveness like the antidote to a poison. It doesn’t matter how much someone in the past has tried to poison you with anger, hurt, fear, bad behaviour, selfishness, insensitivity etc., you can choose to administer the antidote at any moment. Let that moment be now.

Until Next Week: Practice forgiveness whenever you can. Start with the person in the mirror. You deserve forgiveness, you are a good person, you don’t need to be so hard on yourself. Look in the mirror, put your hand over your heart and say, ‘I forgive you’.

Saw something particularly horrible in the news? Close your eyes and say ‘I forgive you’. Get familiar with what it means to forgive, what it feels like, and why it’s important.

Have you had any inspirational experiences with forgiveness? Is there something that you have struggled to forgive? Comment below- I’d love to read what you have to share.

F is for ‘Fate’. What is Fate? (A Twist of Fate.)

What is fate, exactly? What does it mean to experience a twist of fate? Do you believe that you have a fate, a path of destiny that is pre-determined and laid out before you?

…and the big question is….

If fate exists, does that mean that you don’t have free will?

These are not easy questions to answer. Although ‘fate’ is a term that is commonly used in spiritual discourse, it is also a very serious problem for philosophy, psychology and physics:

In philosophy, fate is know as determinism.

In psychology, your fate is choices that you will make based on your social circumstances, which include: the influence of your parents, your religion, social status and education. This is known as your ‘life script’.

In quantum physics, the fate of any particle is inextricably linked to the fate of another particle. This is known as ‘entanglement’. Fate behaves very strangely on the quantum level.(Think Schrodinger’s Cat)

In this post, I will be discussing if fate exists in a way that affects the lives of you and me, and if so, how does it work?

The main problem with fate is that there is definite evidence to suggest that we live in a pre-determined reality (see above, and also just lots of reports of weird synchronistic happenings generally!) yet as we live out or lives, we have the definite distinct impression that we are making choices freely and without any bossy, imaginary force telling us what to do. We seem to exhibit free will: coffee or herbal tea? get up at 7am, or 8am? To move house or not to move house? Call an old friend, or no? Your choices are being made by you, and so your life is shaped by these choices, and these choices alone, right?…Well, maybe.

I cannot offer you a hard and fast scientific formula for the existence of fate, however I have had several interesting experiences that have led me to believe that there are things that I am ‘supposed’ to do whilst alive on this planet, and I call that fate. I often get the sense that I am being led past certain milestones or markers in my life that are not only pre-determined, but are pre-determined towards some purpose. The ‘markers’ are always significant and life changing, they appear to be deliberate and often turn out to be essential to my soul’s development. I get the sense that the frequent synchronicities that I experience serve a function- they conspire with the forces of fate to lead me (by some cosmic invisible soul-map) to people, places, thoughts, actions and lessons that I cannot choose to miss or forget.

I’m sure this all sounds very far-fetched and unscientific, and it is really hard to explain rationally, yet if you have ever experienced a twist of fate or synchronistic intervention, then you’ll know what I mean! It is difficult to shake the feeling that you are being deliberately directed through life, once you have experienced this kind of phenomena. As empirical evidence, I’d like to share with you one of the many synchronistic events that has happened in my life, that has given me the sense that fate is watching over me…very closely.

When I was 23, my mother gave me a book called ‘Looking Back’ by James Arthur Findlay. She told me that J. Arthur Findlay was a man who had very interesting experiences with mediumship and Spirit communication, and had dedicated his life to the study of psychic and mediumistic phenomena. Right away this piqued my interest, being exactly the subject matter I enjoyed reading about. Arthur Findlay was so dedicated to the study and development of psychic and mediumistic abilities that, when he passed away, he left his stately home in Stansted, England, to be converted into a school for psychic studies. This school is now called The Arthur Findlay College for Psychic Studies.

At 23, I was already working as a psychic medium. I found the idea of the college really appealing- I wanted to go to learn from the best psychic and mediumistic teachers, and to build a strong mediumistic relationship with people in Spirit. I asked my mum if we could go, and I chose a week-long course that happened to co-incide with my birthday. My mum (the kind and generous woman that she is!) offered to pay for my visit and tuition at the college as a birthday gift. When our stay at the college was confirmed, I thought I had better learn something about the man whose former home I was going to be living and learning in. So I settled down one day, with the huge tome ‘Looking Back’ that my mum had given me, and I began to read. The book was about Arthur Findlay’s life and was very interesting…I was surprised to read that he hadn’t come from a Spiritual background at all! A third into the book, I turned a page and there was a black and white photo of a church. I stared at it for a long moment…the church seemed so familiar to me. I felt like I knew that church very well. I was so confused. I turned the page and read on, and I couldn’t believe what I read…

I grew up in a small town in Scotland called Beith, which has a population of 6,300 people. I lived there and went to school there my entire childhood. Imagine my shock and surprise when I read, in a caption below the photo of the church, that Arthur Findlay had also lived in Beith for much of his adult life, before moving 400 miles away to Stansted, England. It’s no wonder that the church in the photo looked so familiar…I had walked past that church every day of my childhood! The co-incidence was uncanny. So uncanny that I recognized the experience as not being co-incidence. It was fate. I went to Arthur Findlay College, and on the walls were some of Arthur Findlay’s letters, addressed to and from addresses in Beith. It was surreal. My time at the Arthur Findlay College was amazing. I learned so much that has shaped my understanding of mediumship. I learned so much that I have applied in developing my connection to the Spirit world, and the experiences I had there crystallized the feeling that I’d had for a number of years, that I was supposed to be a medium- that it was my fate. I passed that fate marker, just by being open enough to allow, and follow, the synchonicities that led me to the college. I have come to accept and trust that the same lanterns of fate continue to illuminate my journey through life.

It is because of experiences like this that I do believe that each and every one of us has a fate. But I also believe that we have free will too. So here’s the theory…

Ok, so we live in a deterministic reality. There are pre-determined experiences that you must go through, so that your soul may flourish and extend itself in the most meaningful way possible. Despite this pre-chosen destiny, you still have free will in the following ways:

1. You do not consciously know the fate markers that you have chosen to pass in your life, so you are making free will choices simply because you are unaware at the time of making the choice, that the choice is leading you to your fate.

2. You do not know how/by which path/ in which way you are going to get there. So your destination (your destiny) is pre-determined, but you have many, many free choices to make as to how you’re gonna get there. I call this blend of fate and free will ‘The Matrix of Fate’. Here are some of my possible ‘fates’ and how I may come to experience them, using my own free will.

Fate, free will, determinism, destiny

The colourful dots are some experiences that the force of fate has guided me towards. All roads lead to them or through them, so my experiencing them is inevitable. I make free choices as to how I achieve these fate markers, but achieve them I must- many of my choices lead me round in circles!

Unitl next week: Meditate on the ways in which fear and doubt are so unnecessary because you are safe in the knowledge that you cannot make a mistake about your fate. You can choose the long road to get to the milestone: but you cannot miss the milestone. Allow that knowledge to comfort you and know that you don’t have to try so hard to make your fate happen. Relax: It’s coming! It must.

I’m excited to read your experiences with fate. Do you believe in fate or do you think you make your own destiny? Comments, thoughts and questions are welcomed. If you enjoyed reading this post, please do share it! Thank you!

E is for ‘Evidence’. Do Psychic Abilities Really Exist?

I have a theory about how our psychic abilities operate. I do not know for sure, but my 20,000 readings have given me data to work with, time to ponder, and experience upon which to reflect, and my theory is the sum of these parts. I’d particularly like to share with you my thoughts regarding why it is that some people seem to be psychic, and others not. And why the scientific community has had such difficulty in agreeing whether intuitive abilities exist, or not. I’m going to draw upon some of the popular comments that sceptics and skeptics have made, and suggest another way to investigate the problem of inconsistency when it comes to collecting evidence about psychic abilities. That is to pose the question: Why do some experiments yield significant results which confirm that intuitive abilities exist, whereas other experiments yield no such results?

As I write this, I remember one reading that I did that I felt gave great evidence for the existence of psychic abilities, life after death, and the capacity for physical humans to communicate with non-physical humans. I was reading for a woman, discussing her job, when suddenly, in my mind’s eye, I saw a man in his 40s with thick black hair standing next to her. He told me that he was the woman’s father and he told me to mention the number 5. He put his hand up and spread out his fingers, like you would if you were trying to express the number five to someone who is out of hearing range. Now, I have learned not to interfere or argue with these experiences and just do as I’m told, so I stopped what I was saying and told her, ‘Your Dad is standing next to you. He has thick black hair, he’s in his 40s and he said that it’s very important that I mention the number 5 to you.’ A silence hung in the air for a long moment- I had no idea what she was going to say next. She stared at me, wide-eyed and unblinking, and all the colour drained from her face. She swallowed hard and begun to reach for her bag with a shaky hand. I asked her if she was alright and that I hoped I hadn’t upset her- I thought she was going to get up and leave! She didn’t reply, but continued to fumble around in her bag, and before long, she pulled out a photograph and handed it to me silently, before covering her face with her hands. I took the photo from her, and there he was, with his mop of black hair standing with his family. ‘Turn it over,’ she said from behind her hands. I turned the photo over and on the back was written, ‘Dad if it’s really you then say the number 5.’ The digit 5 was circled several times in black biro. She was shocked, but she wasn’t half as shocked as I was!

Being a student of philosophy, I am compelled to interrogate ‘how?’ and ‘why?’ that amazing and meaningful experience happened. ‘That’s just one occasion’, the skeptics amongst you may say, but this is just one example of the kind of repetitive phenomena that I, and other psychics, have had the absolute joy, amazement and bewilderment to be a part of over and over again.

So what’s the problem? Surely this would make news headlines and would be considered irrefutable evidence for the existence of psychic abilities? Well…not so fast. Whatever science says goes, and so far, the scientific community cannot agree on what psychic phenomena is, or if it even exists. In my opinion, the reason that science has so much difficulty ‘proving’ psychic ability under test conditions is two-fold.

First, because scientists have gone way, way off track with what the nature of psychic ability actually is and so many experiments are not fit for purpose.

Second, because, like quantum physics, observation, expectation, prejudice and belief influence psychic transactions, and thus, the outcome of the experiments. This is why the answer is always ‘inconclusive’ after a large amount of data is gathered.

People all over the world are experiencing psychic phenomena every day, and it’s getting more and more common, and of greater and greater significance to people’s lives. The proof is in the empirical data. Sceptics, skeptics and scientists need to admit that their findings are inconclusive at best, and resist the urge to say ‘psychic phenomena does not exist and we are going to prove it’. This is begging the question at issue. People who have experienced psychic phenomena are not anti-science. We trusted science when it told us that penicillin worked, and we all gave the thumbs-up when physical science said they desperately needed to build a Hadron Collider. We want science to have the answer. On the matter of psychic phenomena, we are not trying to be stupid or difficult, it’s just that science cannot falsify my experiences!

I believe that the reason that psychic ability experiments yield inconclusive results is because the scientific method requires that psychic abilities, if they exist, must abide by a law of nature, a formula, or a physical force that works by a set of rules…but why? Who decided that psychic ability takes that form? On what basis is this expectation founded? Every experiment surrounding psychic ability starts off by insisting that psychic ability be subjected to lab-based experimentation. This is a materialist view which requires that everything in existence be physically provable. However, there are, evidently, many, many things that exist that are non-physical, to which psychic phenomena is akin. Dreams, thoughts, love, interests, inspiration, and 94% of the Universe is non-physical, yet no one questions that they ‘exist’, so why are psychic abilities lumped into the ‘physical’ category? You can no more devise a lab-based test to prove the existence of psychic abilities than you could devise a repeatable lab-based test that proves I love my mother. There is no test for ‘I love my mother’. There is no formula that proves beyond doubt. There is no law that can be discovered to which ‘I love my mother’ abides, yet love my mother I do. So, if love were to be subjected to the same ‘repeatable-in-a-lab’ standards that psychic phenomena has been dragged through, science would be forced to conclude that I do not love my mother. Is science right to tell me that I don’t love my mother just because my love cannot be measured by the scientific method? ‘I’m sorry Lauren, I know you think you love your mother but we can’t find any formula that proves it and if you take a look at this graph, you’ll find that you do not, in fact, love your mother because there is no law that governs your alleged ‘love’ so give up this foolish idea ok?’ What an empty life that would be.

Psychic abilities are akin to a feeling, a talent, an artform- not a law of nature, so sceptical scientists need to stop trying to make psychic abilities fit into an irrelevant and erroneous mould, followed by self-congratulation for ‘proving’ that psychic ability doesn’t exist because it hasn’t met the conditions set by their unfounded and close-minded expectation of its nature.

Psychic abilities are easily influenced by a number of factors. Take this analogy:

An artist who is passionate about painting is contacted by a group of scientists who say, ‘We are not convinced that there is any such thing as art. We don’t believe that what you do is art, and we don’t like what you do. To prove that you are an ‘artist’ and that art exists, you need to come into this laboratory, get hooked up to a machine and produce your greatest work under a time pressure, and under the conditions that we set for you. As you do that, we are going to watch you, doubt you and attempt to disprove you. We will judge whether you are good enough or not. We are fit to decide if you are an artist. If you decline then we will tell everyone that you are not an artist and that your declination has proven that there is no such thing as art.’

Do you honestly think that this artist will be able to go to that laboratory and produce the greatest work of his life?! Of course not! Yet, these are the conditions, implied and/or explicit, under which psychics are expected to ‘prove’ their abilities.

Now consider this:

An artist receives a letter from a scientist that says, ‘We are really interested in your art. We are enthusiastic to understand how you produce your work, and we would like to do some research into what makes people believe so deeply in your work. We want to observe you in your own environment, over a period of time, to get a sense of how you work, and what inspires you and to find out if there’s anything new that we can learn about art through your process. We will treat you with respect and we will let you work at your usual, natural pace. Would you give us permission to do that?’

Do you think that this scientist is likely to learn something amazing about art, inspiration and how it is produced? Of course! This scientist may just get to experience this artist’s greatest work from inception to completion because he or she is working with the artist in situ, with open-mindedness and respect.

The frequency and accuracy of psychic phenomena increases with trust, support, encouragement and nurturing. It disappears with doubt, scorn, ridicule and a desire to prove that it doesn’t exist. If any scientist, experimenter, (or even client!) approaches psychic work with a heartful of scorn, condemnation and doubt, then they are never going to experience psychic ability at work. The existence of psychic ability is wholly subjective and depends ENTIRELY on the sum of collective bias. If the majority of people involved in the experiment are supportive, open-minded and encouraging, amazing things will be observed. If most people involved in the experiment are doubtful, scornful, desperate to prove the non-existence of the abilities and are inflexible with their methods then they will get exactly the result they are looking for: little to nil phenomena will show up. The psychic person is just like the artist, expected to produce his or her finest work, being watched by a roomful of doubting eyes, and when he or she fails, the skeptics (who secretly wanted to witness failure all along) give themselves a pat on the back and deem the case closed.

For any sceptics, skeptics, scientists, psychologists or parapsychologists reading this, try this:

Divide your existing data up into two categories: the experiment results of ‘majority of believers involved in experiments’ and ‘majority of skeptics involved in experiments’. You will see that the data findings are congruent with the respective ‘belief’ or ‘doubt’ sum of the group, not because anyone has been fiddling with the digits, or because of nit-picking at the method of experimentation, but because the mental expectation of the majority of those involved influences the outcome. Just like in quantum physics, observation itself, and the conditions of observation, affects the results, outcomes and evidence of psychic experiments, especially when that observations are being made by thinking beings who, knowingly or unknowingly, pour their prejudices and expectatons into EVERY STEP of the experimentation process, many of whom then go on to expect a replicable and unbiased result. It’s impossible!

I have one piece of advice for anyone who wants to experiment to discover whether or not psychic abilities really exist:

Experiment on yourself!

There is always room to doubt the findings, testimony and research of other people, especially if you are skeptical. The nature of psychic ability, like love or preference, is so subjective that the only data you can trust as being true (for you) is data you collect about yourself. Make your decision about what to believe based on that, because it is YOUR truth, and it’s the only truth you’re ever going to get. There is no objective number. There is no objective ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Psychic ability exists insofar as you will permit it to exist.

Check out this video of a well-known skeptic discovering his intuitive abilities for the first time:

Until next time: Practice psychic experiments with a friend whom you trust. Take turns at visualizing a colour. The person who is visualizing, ‘beams’ the colour across to the receiving person, who must write down which colour the sender was thinking of. Try it at different times of the day, at different locations, during different moon phases etc. and see if the results vary as to how many times you get it right or wrong. Whatever your findings are, you have permission to accept that they are true for you. I would love to know what you find and if your psychical connectivity increases over time the more you build trust between you both, and the connection to each other increases. Join me for ‘The Meaning of Your Dreams’ on Healing Fountain radio on Monday 25th February at 10pm GMT. I will be interpreting your dreams live on air! Click on this image to listen!

Have you had a dream that you felt had a deeper significance than just the movements of your crazy imagination?

Have you ever had a dream that came true?

Do you want to better understand the meanings of dreams?

If you answered YES then read on!

When I was a child, I dreamt about things that would later come true (for more on this, see C is for ‘Children’). I dreamt about small things like a street name that I’d never seen, then the next day I would find myself in that very place! I also dreamt about world events and a few days later, my dream would be on the news. At 8 years old, I started to write my dreams down in a dream journal. By the time I was 13, I was studying everything I could get my hands on about dreaming and sleep, and now, 13 years later, I am still amazed about what happens when we sleep, and mystified by what it means to dream. Even with advances in technology and science, ‘the dream’ is still a very mysterious and little understood entity and that’s what I love most about dreaming: there is so much still to learn.

I have thought at length about how best to approach dream phenomena in this blog post. There is so much to be said; so many exciting and surprising elements of dreaming that I want to share with you, but with limited space and time, I have chosen only one angle of dream and sleep phenomena that I hope you will find interesting. The angle that I have chosen is to explore what your dreams represent about you. The insights coded in your dreams give information about your personality, your nature and the way you operate in the world. So I decided to offer to you the top 15 most common dreams with a short interpretation of the meaning of each dream and how it expresses your personality. These ‘dream interpretations’ have been devised from a mixture of Freudian and Jungian theory, intuitive interpretation, and 13 years of empirical evidence, reports and experience, gathered from the many thousands of people who have attended my dream interpretation workshops, seminars, lectures and consultations- all of whom I thank for their input.

What have you been dreaming about lately? Tell us your dreams in the comment box below! Is your dream featured on this list? If so, is the interpretation meaningful to you? Let me know in the box below!

I dream about running away from danger but it feels like I’m running in treacle, or in slow motion.

I dream about shouting for help but my voice won’t come out or I’m being ignored.

I dream about trying to punch or kick but I can’t get any force behind my strikes.

The keyword for this dream type is: Responsibility.

Are you this person?: You choose to be overwhelmed with responsibility. You find it difficult to delegate tasks, you believe something is done right if you do it yourself, you are super-organized and you may experience symptoms of OCD. You tend to value routine and security and you feel that the best way to ensure that is to be responsible for everything in your life. You are great at organizing people and events. If your home, car or closet is a mess then your mind feels like a mess. You can keep many, many plates spinning at once.

…Or this kind of person: You are overwhelmed with responsibility not because you want to be, but because you find it difficult to say no to people. You are a people pleaser. You want to be helpful and you are very caring. You want others to feel loved by you, but your work is never done in trying to achieve that. You do too much. You say yes to working late although you’re tired, you say yes to lending money although you’re a bit short yourself, you say yes to listening to a friend’s complaints although your time is already over-stretched. Sound familiar? *NEWSFLASH!* No one is going to hate you if you say no. You will still be loved, even when you say no, and here’s the real kicker: maybe others will love and respect you more if you say no sometimes!

You may be a mixture of both of these responsible types. Your dream is expressing that your responsibilities are making you stressed out, perhaps consciously; definitely subconsciously! If you have any variation on the ‘lack of control’ dream, you need to look at how you can relieve yourself of some of the unnecessary responsibilities that you have taken on. Alongside this dream, you may also be experiencing disturbed sleep, waking anxities and feelings of stress, or sudden fears and phobias. To be naturally responsible and pro-active in life is a great thing, but not if it’s making you stressed, ill or scared. Lose some responsibilities and lose this disturbing dream type.

Dreaming of your teeth falling out is a sign that you are ambitious and require clear communication for happiness.

Dreaming of your teeth falling out is a sign that you are ambitious and require clear communication for happiness.

I dream about my teeth falling out.

Your Keywords: Communication and Ambition.

If you dream about your teeth falling out, then you are a person who has many ambitions for the future. You like to try new things, and you live with at least half your mind always on a goal. You may sometimes experience doubt or issues with motivation surrounding your ambitions: your dream reminds you not to give up and to give yourself a pep-talk every now and then! You may have struggled with communication: the feeling that others are not communicating with you in a meaningful way, or that you have not been correctly understood when you have made the effort to communicate. You may feel that your parents did not listen to you when you were a child, or you may have noticed that your romantic relationships have consistently featured communication issues. Your dream tells you that you have the potential to achieve great ambitions, and that successful communications will be central in your journey towards success.

I dream about my loved ones who have passed away.

Your Keyword: Visitation

This has been one of the most significant dream experiences in my life. If your dream about a loved one who is no longer with us is positive, loving and comforting, then it is a visitation from that person’s spirit-self. If the dream is upsetting or scary, then it is not a visitation; a spiritual experience can only be facilitated by love, not fear. I could write a book about the amazing connection between dreaming and mediumistic experiences! I have affectionately coined the name ‘dreamiumship’ for such experiences. I wrote an article about ‘Dreamiumship’ for the Psi Review (Issue 5, August 2012) which you can get from the Scottish Society for Psychical Research.

I dream about being pregnant.

Your Keyword: Ideas

If you dream that you are pregnant (male or female!) then it represents that you are gestating an idea. You have a natural gift for self-employment and you are likely to be very happy and successful if you choose to be your own boss. You are a person who is interested in life and you have a curious disposition. You are a natural leader and you may find it difficult to be led by others. This dream means that you have good ideas, be aware to develop them fully and get to planning before you rush to put them into action. That initial ‘mental gestation’ will be the difference between your ideas succeeding and failing. This is a wonderful dream- good luck with your good idea!

Do you dream about flying? You are creative and spiritually aware.

Do you dream about flying? You are creative and spiritually aware.

I dream that I can fly.

Your Keyword: Spirituality

This is a very positive dream. It indicates that you are somehow aware that your ‘self’ is made of composite parts. Whether you think of it as mind/body, physical/ethereal, or earth/spirit. You are a creative person who has a great imagination. In terms of work, you need to be doing a job that fulfills both your material and spiritual needs. It is important to you that you are making a worthwhile contribution to the world. The only warning contained in this dream is: you can sometimes become obsessive or focus very intently on one thing- be careful of developing addictions and repetitive habits in all their forms.

I dream about something terrible happening to a person I love. (Cheating, drowning, going missing etc.)

Your Keyword: Appreciation

The mind is a curious thing. Often, the more we love and appreciate something, the more we dream about something happening to take that thing away. The meaning of this dream is the opposite to its contents. If you dream about some harm coming to a person you love it simply represents how much you love and appreciate them, and nothing more. It is not a premonition that something bad is actually going to happen, nor is the dream cause for alarm. This dream represents that the love between you and the person in your dream is very strong and very real, hence why the threat of losing them is so prominent in your subconscious mind.

I dream about water.

Your Keyword: Emotion

The form that water takes in your dream indicates your emotional state. Is the water in your dream wild, contained, frozen, still, flowing, warm, raining down, choppy, cold, scary, soothing? Meditate on the shape and form of water in your dream, it will tell you about what’s going on with you emotionally, and this knowledge can help inform your actions and guide your choices in life in the way that is best for you.

I dream that someone dies who is actually alive in my waking life.

Your Keyword: (Re)birth

Have you heard the old wives tale that dreaming about a death means a birth? Well, it’s kinda true! If you are dreaming about someone dying who is alive and well, it indicates a pregnancy close by, or your re-birth/the re-birth of a person in your life. Think of the caterpillar that goes into its chrysalis and comes out a beautiful butterfly: similar idea.

I dream about houses that I used to live in.

Your keywords: Parenting, family, foundations

This is quite a complex dream, the meaning of which changes depending on other factors present in the dream. You may be a person who is a natural parent. You take others under your wing and you are great with children. You may have considered fostering or adoption. You connect well with your inner child which allows you to connect with the inner child of others. You may be a person who is still working through past family issues. Perhaps you only had one parent around when you were little, or you’ve found it difficult to forgive the mistakes that your parents made in the past. Whatever it is, your dream is asking you to see the benefit in forgiving and letting it go. Finally, on a more practical level, dreaming about houses asks that you look at the health of your skeleton. Have you been experiencing sore joints? An old break that keeps aching? Could you benefit from more calcium? Take care of your skeleton particularly around the time of having this kind of dream.

I dream that I turn up to work/school naked or with no pants on.

Your Keyword: Judgement

When someone asks me about this dream, it always makes me chuckle! It doesn’t seem that funny at the time though, right? If you dream about turning up naked when you should be clothed, it represents that you have a fear of being judged. You don’t like others to know all your business and you care too much about what people think of you. What matters most is what you think about yourself and your own decisions, and your dream is trying to tell you that you need to let go of your judgements, about people’s judgements, about you. Everyone is too busy trying to not do anything embarrassing in their own life, to notice or care what you’re doing in yours, so the judgement, like the naked dream, is very much in your own mind.

When I fall asleep, I get the sensation that I am falling and I wake up with a start.

Your Keywords: Sixth Sense

When you fall asleep, the sensation of falling is a very powerful way in which your sixth sense expresses itself. When humanity was in its infancy and we lived a life that was much more exposed to danger than we are today, we had to develop a way to protect ourselves from danger. We did not have natural armour, poison, sharp claws or teeth…but we did have the power of our minds. So when our ancient ancestors slept, there was an intuitive aspect of their minds that could sense when danger was nearby, adrenaline would be released in the brain and they would wake up with a start. The sensation of falling is that process occuring in your mind today. Are you a light sleeper? People who sleep lightly tend to experience the sensation of falling most often.

I dream about being in a car, walking, being in an aeroplane or other mode of transport.

Your Keywords: Life Path

If you dream about a mode of transportation, it reflects where you feel you are on your life path at the moment. Is the vehicle moving smoothly? Great! Has the vehicle crashed? Not so good. This represents that you know you need to be more in-tune with your authentic self and more in a place of allowing yourself to fulfil your life the way you really really want to, rather than the way you think you ought to. Cars are your general direction, boats are your emotional direction, aeroplanes are how mentally fulfilled you feel, walking is about the pace of your life path. Meditate on what you really want out of life when you have this dream.

Terrifying isn't it?! Avoid this gremlin of the mind by choosing to not let life stress you out.

Terrifying isn’t it?! Avoid this gremlin of the mind by choosing to not let life stress you out.

I wake up in the middle of the night, sure that there is someone in my room or sitting on me. I am so scared that I can’t move.

Your Keyword: Stress

Many times, rational and sceptical people at my workshops have taken me to one side, wide-eyed and ashen-faced and whispered to me, ‘Can I tell you something? I think there’s a demonic entity or ghost in my room. I’ve seen it several times.’ and I ask them, ‘When you see it, are you so scared that you can’t move?’ and they reply ‘Yes’, and right away I know that they are suffering from sleep paralysis. If you are suffering from sleep paralysis, I really feel for you- it can be terrifying. I know because I’ve experienced it a couple of times. Here’s the good news: You’re not going insane and you do not have a demonic entity in your room. I promise.

Here is what I know about sleep paralysis: you will experience it when you are stressed. When you are stressed out, your consciousness cannot cycle through the different levels of sleep in the proper way, so when one aspect of your mind is deeply asleep, another aspect can jump awake very suddenly. When you are in a very deep level of sleep, your brain releases chemicals which paralyze you and prevent you from acting out your dreams: peeing in the closet, falling down the stairs and roaming the streets in your nightie is not a good idea, so your brain does a good job of protecting you from that. So if you wake up suddenly from this deep cycle of sleep, you are still paralyzed because your mind remains partly in a deep sleep, and here’s where the terror begins! Because your mind is in an unnatural state (literally half asleep and half awake) your mind will try to logically justify why you are paralyzed, so you hallucinate a ‘reason’ why you cannot move: A demon on your chest, a witch, an alien being or other unsavoury character gets the blame for your paralysis, but there is nothing there, just a confused, tired, stressed and sleepy mind. If you are experiencing sleep paralysis, you need to try and get calm at bedtime. There are several steps you can take:

1. Don’t watch anything too stimulating before bed.

2. Make a concerted effort to not think about stressful life situations before bed or in bed.

3. Try to go to bed around the same time every night, and wake up the same time every morning.

4. Creat a positive trigger experience before bed, like taking a bath, drinking some warm milk or meditating, that lets your mind know that it’s sleepy-time.

5. Limit your intake of drugs and alcohol- reduce caffeine throughout the day, aiming for no caffeine after 4pm.

6. Don’t eat later than 2 hours before bed.

7. Resolve issues and arguments before bedtime. (This will make a huge difference)

8. Get into the habit of sleeping on your side and not your back. Sleep paralysis has been linked to the inner ear and can be triggered by sleeping on your back.

9. Get some exercise every day. If you are too pooped to be stressed, that is a good thing!

10. Most importantly, don’t worry! If you are in the throes of sleep paralysis, the worst thing you can do is panic and try to get up because your brain thinks that you are still asleep. Take a few deep breaths and know that it is just stress, close your eyes, and go back to sleep.

I hope that you have enjoyed learning a little about the meaning of the 15 most common dreams! The next time your friend says, ‘I had the craziest dream last night!’ perhaps you will be able to guide them as to its meaning.

Until Next Week: Keep a dream journal. Sit it next to your bed and write down your dream as soon as you wake up. Include the date and how you felt when you woke up. Return to the dream diary at a later time and see if you can gain insight and meaning: you may just discover the wisdom of your subconscious.

Next Week: E is for ‘Evidence’.
